RIP ‘Big’ John Harte

The music industry is held up by the unsung heroes. The people who work behind the scenes, to make sure the rock stars who hog all the spotlight look and perform as best they can. Guys like the lighting engineers, the sound techs, the back stage runners – and the security guys who make sure their charges get to and from the shows safely, so that the star names can do their jobs as well as they do their own. One of the most renowned, and respected, people to do just that job was a guy by the name of “Big” John Harte, who spent two decades working as head of security for Kiss and Iron Maiden, as well as the personal bodyguard for the likes of Billy Idol and Prince. He passed away on Friday (11 February) in Hollywood, Florida at the age of 70.

FINALLY, it happened – and how! Originally meaning to be a triumphant return to Wales for the launch of their second album, ‘Point Of No Return’, the show was scheduled pre-pandemic and subsequently rescheduled THREE times – but it was SOOO worth the wait. A sold-out headline gig by the Crows is always going to be stacked to the rafters with a partisan crowd – and this was no exception. If you add in the Voice of Steelhouse, Nev Macdonald fronting Hand of Dimes, the Steelhouse family come out in droves. Talking of keeping it in the family, Max Rhead (one of the Steelhouse main men, along with Mikey Evans) even got his son’s band, Tribeless, on the bill. However, this was not just because the drummer is his son either, they are a very good young band.

Despite the numerous Covidications which we all have had to endure over the past 24 months, we have managed to keep the Singles Club up-and-running , in order to bring you the hottest new sounds around. And, we’re glad to say that, after a hiatus, the big lad by the name of DJ Astrocreep finally back behind the death decks with a playlist that has been one of the hardest to date for him to make his selections. While the likes of Venom Prison and Pupil Slicer are rightfully earning a lot of plaudits for their new material, he’s focused mainly on the up and coming side of things, with a couple of exceptions. With that said, let’s get drinking the digital bar dry and into the music!
