Artwork for Kickstarter by BulletI love traditional heavy metal. It’s what I grew up on, after all. Bands like Motörhead, Iron Maiden, Rose Tattoo, Saxon, Judas Priest, Accept… they were the ones that first ignited my passion for the genre, got my mojo working and fired it into overdrive, leading me to a lifestyle choice I have never once regretted making. So, when a band comes along that evokes the spirit, the soul, the passion of the music I have loved for almost an entire lifetime (well, as much of it as I can remember), then inevitably my ears are gonna prick up and my interest is gonna be piqued…

These Swedish veterans are just such a band, because what they do is pure and simple: good, old-fashioned denim ‘n’ leather clad heavy fuckin’ metal with no airs or graces, no punches pulled and no excuses given for delivering the goods old school style. And that is in the form of big riffs, huge harmonies, memorable hooks, gritty vocals and uncompromising attitude.

Yes, in places it’s cheesier than a Dairylea sandwich, but it’s also got more crunch than that burnt Nutella toastie I made last night. Very much drawn from the Teutonic school of metal (especially in terms of Dag “Hell” Hofer’s distinctly Udo-ish vocals) rather than the NWoBHM movement, Bullet put the fun back into the “fun”damental art of creating music that just wants to make you forget all the bullshit that is going around you, crack open a cold one, let loose your ponytail, bang your head and get lost in the moment.

Bullet may not be kickstarting their career – although this is their first album in eight years – but they certainly are doing so in terms of reigniting and rekindling the passion for proper heavy metal done… well… proper. So, turn the stereo up ‘Full Throttle’, ‘Keep Rolling’ as you Hit The Road’ at top speed and prepare to be ‘Chained By Metal’ as these beys deliver a heavy metal bullet straight into your darkened heart and soul \m/
