Chosen by Monk
My latest choice is a true visual treat, as well as an audio one of course, as this prog rock amalgamation of the talents of ex-Porcupine Tree bassist Colin Edwin and King Crimson’s Pat Mastelotto round out their busy year with the final instalment of a triptych of single releases to preface the arrival of their latest album early in the new year.
The accompanying video, created by vocalist Lorenzo Esposito Fornasari (a.k.a LEF), draws heavy reverential inspiration from the works of the likes of Sylvain Chomet and Tim Burton to present a haunting embodiment of the uneasy, cathartic atmosphere of the track.
LEF says of the song, which also features a guest appearance by former Porcupine Tree touring guitarist John Wesley:
Our songs lay us bare, showing exactly who we are. We often tuck personal messages into the lyrics—words that might be a bit tricky to suss out. But that’s alright, because it’s the music that really carries the weight of our emotions.
