The Hip Priests – ‘FO IN HH’ (Self Released)

There’s something about getting some new product from The Hip Priests that immediately takes back to the adrenalin rush I used to get as a teenager when acquiring the latest video nasty from under the counter of our local video shop most Friday nights which made me feel like not only was I acquiring something illicit and subversive but also that I was sticking it to the Tory fuckers in power at the time.

So just like an original uncut VHS of Nightmares In A Damaged Brain you won’t find ‘FO IN HH’ in the shops folks, that’s because this mega limited DVD recorded live in Hamburg back last August aboard MS Stubnitz is only available directly from the band’s Big Cartel store (link at the bottom of this page) in a hand numbered special edition format.

Hip Priests 2008

Professionally filmed at a secret Turbojugend party, the DVDs main feature perfectly captures the glunk, sweat and sneers that Lee Love, Austin Rocket, Skintight Tim and Nathan Von Cruz give their audiences each and every time you see them live via some crystal clear multi cam (wrist) action. And at 10 songs and just under 40 minutes in length it not only demands repeat viewings but also listening too, because the soundtrack is absolutely fucking blinding cranked up loud and lewd.

Set list wise it’s the best of their Uber Rock Album Of The Year ‘Black Denim Blitz’ (a gloriously ragged ‘Flat Out And Fucked Up’ and ‘Mother Superior’ already sounding like the all-conquering anthems that we have now come to love) along with some choice oldies like set opener ‘Young Savage’ and the gin fuelled Gary X-Ray tribute ‘Teenage Friction’.

Hip Priests 3009

If you’ve already seen The Hip Priests live then you will have a good idea of what you are going to get by parting with your ten nicker for ‘FO IN HH’, but what you won’t be aware of is that here packaged with three of the band’s most recent promo videos (Jesus Died So We Could Ride, ‘Zero Fucks Given’ and Vodkacoma Casanova’) the band have actually produced one of the most essential live DVDs you’ll ever have the chance to get your sweaty mitts on. So snap one up before it’s too late.

Nowhere near a “video nasty” onscreen, watching ‘FO IN HH’ is actually more like the thrill of finding a weather worn copy of Men Only discarded in a hedge around by your local graveyard, this DVD though is a little less cum soaked.
