So, after a lengthy hiatus, and a massive refurb of the bar, it’s me, DJ Astrocreep, back behinds the decks of doom (and prog, psych and the rest of the palaver) for the official re-opening of the Singles Club. Yes, we’ve been away for a while, but we’re back in action with this special debut album singles only version of the Club, showcasing 18 of the best debut album tracks we’ve received in the last couple of weeks. Let’s head straight on in, then…..
To kick it all off, we have Nashville-based indie-psych outfit Flight Attendant, with a hit of pure melody that is just as ‘Honeysweet’ as the title would have us believe!
No Windows, a young Edinburgh duo, have a densely packed debut single in ‘Shout (Red Song)’ full of melody, with honey sweet vocals soaring over the top of some slightly discordant dream-psych – a hell of an introduction!
Courting are on the path of being ‘Famous’ in their own right, if they keep releasing anthems like this! Melodic electro-indie merging into glitchy pop noise – quite the sound!
Over to Scandinavia now for some symphonic power metal and Asterise are watching for some ‘Falling Stars’. Lots of melody, riffs and elements of speed metal combine for a heady bundle of fun!
Seraina Telli, formerly of Burning Witches, has her debut solo release on its way and is telling us how ‘I Dare To’ feel good – not surprising when she’s creating symphonic rock as good as this!
Iron Allies are preaching about the ‘Blood In Blood Out’, as the former Accept members have put together this is hard rocking, prog-tinged old school sounding heavy metal track!
Some experimental rock now, as Pure Adult are dealing out ‘A Big Surprise’ with their new track. Slightly off kilter harmonies that bang into a wall of noise for a rather ear catching mix – not to be missed!
Turning up the intensity now, we have Daeva and their ‘Passion Under The Hammer’. Blackened vocals transposed into riffy thrash metal give rise to a heavy 80s thrash feel!
From blackened vocals to old school sounding black metal, Pale Spektre‘s tale ‘Of Gaping Hollow’s Grate’ sounds like it was recorded in a vault in hell itself! Low-fi, thrashy riffs and blast beats a plenty!
Alutiae #1 may not have been known to you before now, but their heavy metal attack of death/grind warns you that ‘We’re Animal’. Full of heavy riffing, bits of groove and some demonic grunting vocals not for the faint of heart!
Some electronic emo-rock next, as Oceans In The Sky tell us all about their ‘Ghost’, in a funky synth-backed big emo chorus!
Blues-punks Mother Vulture are an act that should have a huge future, as ‘Homemaker’ should attest to you. Plenty of riffs, melody and great production sit them as a cross between Coheed and Cambria and Queens of the Stone Age, with a massive sound!
Now for something a little different, as Lybica have some highly atmospheric post-rock, which should help them ‘Ascend’ more into the public eye! Featuring Killswitch Engage drummer Justin Foley on guitar, there is plenty to enjoy in their melodic, laidback riffing
Cory Marks wants to ‘Burn It Up’ in this hard rocking tale. Chock full of melodic rock, with elements of country and soulful vocals, all contrbuting to a great introduction to this artists!
Northern Irish newcomers LØ are mixing some heavy rock into some math rock as they ‘Green Out’ in this single. Peter Steele style vocals over the top of some top notch stoner sounds make for a great mix!
Some neoclassical melo-death now, as Finnish upstarts Clamoris warn us of ‘The Bite of the Cosmic Snake’. Guitar hooks, melody and some old school sounding metal combine for a great track!
Some groovy metalcore for our penultimate track, as Parahuman jump into our ‘Sober’ consciousness. Gravel vocals with music that blends between melody and some pretty heavy chugging make for a great introduction to the band!
Finally, from our friends at Rum Bar Records, we have another fantastic slice of vintage sounding garage rock with Mad Mojo Jett telling us it’s so ‘Hard To Be Broken’. Vocal harmonies, chilled out rock with rockabilly elements and plenty of fun!
Well, now that we’ve returned with a bang and refreshed your lugholes with some of the finest new sounds around, we promise we won’t leave it so long before doing it all again… in fact, we’ll be back on the aural attack before you know. So, tune in next time for some more exciting musical treats: we promise you won’t be disappointed \m/
