Day 7 of Uber Rock’s 13 Days of Halloween lumbers out of the night to haunt your every thought! Today’s victim is Dean Fletcher of  Godkilla. This savage has a throat rougher than Freddy Krueger’s skin and a beard that, if searched thoroughly, would surely be found to be holding several missing teenage girls against their will…..

1.) What are your most vivid childhood memories of Halloween?

When I was younger we used to have Halloween parties and they always seemed to be at my house so my parents would have to entertain a load of kids. We would have games where we were blindfolded and my parents would have food that resembled gory body parts. This seemed to scare the other kids a bit but I enjoyed.

2.) Why do you think that the worlds of horror and metal/punk have always been so closely linked?

Most metal is aggressive and dark, the same way most horrors are. For me they are so closely linked because it’s the feeling the music gives me when we’re writing. At the same time it always works well to have a bit of metal in a horror film setting the mood.

3.) Has there been a horror remake yet that has bettered the original movie?

This is a difficult question. I really like Rob Zombie’s remakes of the Halloween films and in my opinion has explained the reasons behind Michael’s murderous behaviour and has left it to known serial killer behaviour. Is it better than the original? I’m going to have to say yes.

4.) What’s the greatest ever horror movie kill?

For me the greatest ever horror movie kill appears in the classic Maniac (1980). There’s a scene outside a nightclub where our maniac Frank Zito is watching a couple coming out of the club and getting busy in their car. Zito then jumps on to the bonnet of the car wielding a shotgun and blows the guy’s head to pieces through the windscreen. Epic Gore. The film was remade in 2012 but this scene did not appear, shame.

5.) Who is the baddest ever horror movie villain…and why?

For me it’s always going to be Jason Voorhees because I’ve loved and own every Friday the 13th films, including Jason X and Freddy Vs Jason. He’s cold, solid, brutal and keeps coming back!

6.) Who is the greatest ever Scream Queen?

Well this is linked to the last question because for me it’s Adrienne King from Friday the 13th. She played Alice, who was basically the classic non-drinking, virgin prude that usually makes it through all the violence while screaming their head off. Even though it was Jason’s mother she was taking on in the first film, Jason got his revenge on her in the sequel very early on.

7.) Name your Top 5 favourite horror movies of all time…and tell us why!!

1.) Friday the 13th – This sets the standard for slasher movies for years to come, especially the skill of walking slowly but still catching your prey.

2.) The Evil Dead 2 – This film is scary, funny and insane. Awesome performances and real special effects.

3.) An American Werewolf In London – What can I say? Great story, dodgy acting and amazing effects.

4.) A Nightmare On Elm Street – A film that can give you nightmares and also fear having them.

5.) Maniac – This film is proper creepy and relentless, stalking, insanity and murder, what more can you ask for?

8.) What underrated horror movie would you recommend to our readers just in case they have never seen it?

For this it would be August Underground for its raw realism and unforgiving violence. Also worth mentioning the others, August Underground Mordem and August Underground Penance. Check them out!

9.) What is your guilty pleasure, the trashy horror flick that you hold dear but everyone else runs away from?

I don’t know if everyone runs away from it but for me it would be Street Trash. It’s cheesy and terrible but I love it.

10.) What is the greatest ever horror movie poster?

The original Friday the 13th poster is immense, sums the movie up in one glance.

11.) Have you ever had a ghostly supernatural experience?

In the house I lived in previously with a couple of friends we had a few instances of unexplained events. We have taps turning on by themselves, toilet flushing itself, chairs moving and a few bumps in the night, all of this was bearable but one night when I was home alone I went to bed slamming my bedroom door behind me as I always do: as I drifted off I heard my door handle turn and my door opened, I waited for someone to walk in but nobody did. I jumped out of bed and had a look, nothing there. This happened again a few minutes later so turned to face the wall and made myself go to sleep.

12.) What ‘star’ of the music world would you like to see slaughtered in gory horror movie style?

I discussed this with my friend Harley not long ago and we both agreed it would be good to see Rob Zombie on the other side of the camera and getting split it half or something equally as gory.

13.) What are your plans for Halloween this year?

My band Godkilla are playing a gig in Crowleys Rock Bar, Swansea. It’s set to be a damn good night full of costumes, alcohol and metal so we can’t really go wrong!
