Remember the Werewolf of Washington? Well, how about Spooky Jefferson’s Ideal Lunchbox of Washington…Tyne and Wear? Yes, the fourth victim of Uber Rock’s 13 Days of Halloween is none other than Davie King of the 7 piece dark alternative/progressive/ska outfit. What horrors have his fevered mind unleashed?
1.) What are your most vivid childhood memories of Halloween?
Halloween is my favourite time of year and I have always celebrated it from a young age. Best memory is my stepdad going as Hitler to a bad taste Halloween party. He grew his tash in, got a hair piece and also used his dad’s old army uniform.
2.) Why do you think that the worlds of horror and metal/punk have always been so closely linked?
They’re part of their own cult scene and everyone seems to look after each other. We have made great friends in the last year including Tommy Creep from Graveyard Calling and the lovely chaps in Zombina and the Skeletones and White Blacula. Hope the scene continues to thrive.
3.) Has there been a horror remake yet that has bettered the original movie?
Not bettered it, but I enjoyed the remake of The Evil Dead. Jane Levy played a great part and she is stunning to say the least.
4.) What’s the greatest ever horror movie kill?
Tina’s death in A Nightmare On Elm Street, in the bedroom when she is getting pulled around on the ceiling, then the masses of blood. Great scene.
5.) Who is the baddest ever horror movie villain…and why?
It has to be Freddy Kruger: he was terrifying, funny and a sadistic genius played absolutely fantastically by Robert Englund.
6.) Who is the greatest ever Scream Queen?
Just because it has been in my head since Spooky wrote a song called ‘Funhouse’ it’s the girl locked in the cellar in Silence Of The Lambs who has the sudden realisation that she isn’t there for ransom and will never get out.
7.) Name your Top 5 favourite horror movies of all time…and tell us why!!
This is a hard question. I’ll change my answers if you ask me again.
The Exorcist – Seen it as a kid and still love it. I was the same age as Regan and was teased by my older friends saying it happens to everyone that age, haha.
Paranormal Activity – Watched it three times in one day when it first came out. If you have a great imagination it will ruin you.
A Nightmare On Elm Street – Because it’s awesome, no more needs to be said.
House Of 1000 Corpses – Big fan of Rob Zombie’s films, but this was the first I seen and thoroughly enjoyed it. Haven’t been disappointed with any of his movie releases.
Stigmata – Another cult film that got to me big time.
There are thousands of others such as 28 Days Later, IT, Scream, The Shining, Halloween, Alien….
8.) What underrated horror movie would you recommend to our readers just in case they have never seen it?
I watched some films not long ago that weren’t really a success but I enjoyed them. A film called Funny Games with Naomi Watts and Michael Pitt. That’s worth a watch. A bit strange though.
9.) What is your guilty pleasure, the trashy horror flick that you hold dear but everyone else runs away from?
The Rocky Horror Picture Show! Haha, love that film, haha.
10.) What is the greatest ever horror movie poster?
I always loved the poster for The Eye with the fingers coming out the eye. I actually drew that as my coursework in school.
11.) Have you ever had a ghostly supernatural experience?
Not really. I wish I did, though. I’ve had experiences in the realm of waking up in the middle of the night but nothing I can guarantee to be real. I have a friend who is followed and I believe her. She has been shook awake, been grabbed and there has been a hand mark, and her boyfriend saw people standing over her when they first got together.
12.) What ‘star’ of the music world would you like to see slaughtered in gory horror movie style?
Hahaha, great question. There are too many to list – it would be the whole modern pop, mainstream music culture in a mass murder horror scene probably.
13.) What are your plans for Halloween this year?
Spooky Jefferson’s Ideal Lunchbox are known for their Halloween shows with over 100+ attending. We’re playing The Angel in Durham this Friday, October 31st.
