Guitarist Phil Campbell, best known for his 30+ year tenure with Motörhead, has died at the age of 64.
Previously a founding member of Welsh NWoBHMers Persian Risk, Campbell joined Motörhead in 1984, following the departure of Brian Robertson, and remained at Lemmy’s side until the iconic frontman’s death in December 2015, making him the second longest-serving member of the band, after its founder.
Following Lemmy’s death, and the inevitable dissolution of Motörhead, he teamed up with his three sons – Todd, Dane and Tyla – for the appropriately named Phil Campbell And The Bastard Sons.
Campbell had undergone major surgery earlier this year. His family said that he passed away peacefully last night following a long and courageous battle in intensive care.
The family’s statement continued:
Phil was a devoted husband, a wonderful father, and a proud and loving grandfather, known affectionately as “Bampi.” He was deeply loved by all who knew him and will be missed immensely. His legacy, music and the memories he created with so many will live on forever.
