Artwork for Rollin' by The Studio 68!A high-octane rock ’n’ roll band formed in North London and steeped in late ’60s and early ’70s influences, The Studio 68! were destined for stardom in the early ’90s before their chaotic lifestyle derailed them. In 2023 they were re-generated, returning with the addition of soul powerhouse vocalist Dani Turner, and this month they unleash their brand new album ‘Rollin’’ through famed ÜK mod and punk label Detour Records.

Recorded in London with producer Brian O’Shaughnessy (Primal Scream/Rumer), ’Rollin’’ sees the 68! fusing elements of funk, soul, jazz, blues, psych and rock into a very consistent and suitably varied ten tracks.

Up-tempo organ groovers like ‘Magic Touch’ and ‘One Way Ticket’ mix it up with the equally up-tempo funk-infused ‘Need A Miracle’ and ‘Funky People’, all guaranteed to get your toes tappin’ at the very least, whilst the likes of ‘Hall Of Mirrors’ and ‘Seasons’ add some mean and moody psychedelic soul.

The soul is heavy on ‘The Way It Is’ and slinky on ‘Turn Off Your Mind’, with the epic album closer ‘Time Slips Through Your Hands’ wrapping all of the album’s elements together for a belting finale featuring some quality sax work.

The playing throughout the album is top notch, with grooving rhythms underpinning quality guitar, organ and brass, all topped off by Dani Turner’s hugely impressive powerhouse soulful vocal delivery.
