Chosen by Monk

The south coast-based vocalist and guitarist, who is also one half of BirdPen and co-frontman with the experimental trip-rock collective Archive, loves life so much that he is living it seven times over on this, the second trailer from his upcoming sophomore solo album.

Pen told us:

This is a song about feeling trapped, taken from the viewpoint of several different people.

It’s about trying to face who and what you are, but with a sense of being stuck inside, without escape, checking your phone for the latest trends, drinking, or trying to escape from an abusive relationship. I wrote it during the pandemic, a period when a lot of people realized they weren’t happy, so in a way this song is about that. It’s life life life life… no matter what we try and do.

Speaking about the new album, which will see Pen exploring the nature of ‘Life Inside The Feeder Mind‘ when it is released via JAR Records on 10 October, Pen added:

These new songs come from a dark and often confused state of mind. Our world is one of continued reminders of growing uncertainty, so I used the writing of them as some sort of sonic therapy.

After all, aren’t all our brains in constant feed mode, with our mouths wide open to be drip-fed fear and worry, with just an occasional morsel of hope?
