Chosen by Monk
These Bristol fuzz rockers return and show no sign of living up to their latest single’s title, what with a new album and not one but two tours on the horizon – all while they’re taking life’s lemons and squeezing them in their eyes!
The track hints at a new, more mature direction than the usually bombastic and larger than life turbo-rock of the band’s self-released 2022 debut album ‘Mother Knows Best’, but the spirit of that early sound lives on in the outrageous and theatrical vocal performances and thick, pedal heavy guitar tones. This marries with a more introspective and honest lyricism and grander melodic sections full of vocal layering and echoey psychedelic guitar leads.
Vocalist Georgi Valentine Ivanov had this to say:
I wanted to use the lyrics to shine a light on the darker side of emotion, the way we sometimes want to flirt with self destruction and that temptation to fall from grace. Because the world gets too much sometimes, and you think something has to break. It’s darker than some of the other stuff we’ve written but it was fun to explore a new sound and get even heavier, both musically and lyrically.
‘Slow Down’ is another independent release, with the band wearing their DIY heritage as a badge of honour, as guitarist Brodie Maguire shares:
We want to prove that with enough hard work, you can make it as a completely independent band. We want to push the boundaries of just how much is really possible.
