Chosen by Monk
My latest choice sees this Dundee metal crüe rising from the dead (sic) with a reinvented sound and a reinvigorated line-up:
‘Lazarus’ was actually written by new guitarist Jamie Paterson before his first audition, as a showcase of what he could bring to the band.
Guitarist and band founder Drew Cochrane told me about the immediate chemistry that brought about the song and its choice as the first new music from the new line-up:
Choosing a song written by Jamie as the first single for the new lineup presented a fantastic opportunity to welcome the new members into the band formally and cement their place, dispelling any “new guy” or “outsider” ideas and show that this is a collective effort and everyone has equal say and input.
Vocalist Andrew Downie added:
I wanted to write a track about rebirth and resurrection whilst still paying homage to the previous Catalysis lineup. By blending the story of ‘Lazarus’ and references to previous Catalysis songs, my aim was to have lyrics that conveyed a message of overcoming adversity. Rather than being about death and rebirth, my aim is to inspire listeners to find strength within themselves, to persevere through challenges, and to embrace transformation.
- Catalysis play Dundee Metal Fest (Winter Chapter) on Saturday 7 December.
