Artwork for What A Fucking Nightmare by The ChiselSome things never go out of style. Emerging from a pool of friends and collaborators on the third-wave London punk scene that had previously spawned the likes of Violent Reaction, Arms Race and Chubby & The Gang, The Chisel evoke the true spirit of Oi! and hardcore stomp with this second collection of 16 pure old-school punk ‘n’ roll anthems that neither demand nor give any compromise or forgiveness for their unremitting attitude and commitment to delivering some of the angriest, most visceral exemplars of the genre as it stands today.

The Chisel do exactly what their name suggests: chip and cut their way into your psyche with infectious chorus after memorable melody with more accuracy than a highly-trained sculptor working on the most delicate pieces of marble. And the same, they deliver with a uncompromising level of no-holds-barred attitude and commitment that is raw and latent in its unrelenting energy, as evinced on the likes of ‘No Gimmicks’ (and there certainly aren’t any of them present here) and lead single ‘Fuck ‘Em’, itself a declaration of intent if ever you heard one.

Combining the sort of sharp lyrical insight that continues to make punk such a relevant and exacerbating force with hard-hitting yet hugely dance-able riffage that is simultaneously as subtle as a pair of DMs to the face as it is able to get those same boots dancing and jiving across every punk rock club dancefloor in the Überverse.
