I really wanted Eerie Von to agree to be interviewed for Uber Rock’s 13 Days Of Halloween. While, in a basic sense, having someone with that Misfits/Samhain/Danzig connection answering the questions seemed more than appropriate (and cool!) it was the fact that Eerie Von’s career has been spattered with twists and turns that really gripped hold of my interest…..

Although never an official Misfits member – he did record several tracks with them – Eerie Von worked as a roadie and a photographer for the band. He was initially the drummer in Glenn Danzig’s post-Misfits band Samhain before switching to bass guitar duties, a position he filled when the band became Danzig. With last year’s ‘Kinda Country’ album, Eerie Von showcased a dark country sound, a kind of twisted Americana, if you will. Last year also saw the release of ‘Misery Obscmiseryobscuraura’, a book compiling photographs taken throughout his career.

Now, Eerie Von answers the 13 questions with roots in Hell……..

What are your most vivid childhood memories of Halloween?

Shopping bags with pumpkins on them filled with candy. We used to have to stop back home to unload then go back out again.  Those little candy bags with the decorations on them. Really going all out on costumes, with fake hair and make up. I was a wolf-man one year, it was awesome.

Why do you think that the worlds of horror and metal/punk have always been so closely linked?

If you like Halloween, and music, you’re gonna lean toward the subject matter. Demons and stuff, just make sense.

What are your thoughts on the state of horror movies at the present time? With all the remakes and rehashes there doesn’t seem to be much original thought going on at present…..

Like punk rock, horror movies will always be a genre, and a sub-genre and, for some, a way of life. There’s so many old films I’ve never seen, that I don’t watch as much new stuff these days. I don’t scare easily anymore so some of the new stuff just ain’t making it for me.

Has there been a horror remake yet that has bettered the original movie?

There probably is, but I can’t recall….

John Carpenter’s Halloween or Rob Zombie’s Halloween?

The original. But I get the whole remake thing. Anyone can take someone else’s idea and run with it. The trick is to come up with something original in the first place.

Fast zombies or slow zombies?

Slow zombies.

What’s the greatest ever horror movie kill?misery1240

My favorite has to be Leatherface hanging that girl up on the meat hook in Texas Chainsaw.

Who is the baddest ever horror movie villain…and why?

Gotta go with Leatherface, because I believe there are people out there like that. The realness is what’s scary to me. I kinda get the whole lifestyle.

Who is the greatest ever Scream Queen?

I like Tiffany Shepis. She’s done so many, and I recently met her. She’s hot. I’d love to chop her into little pieces. Afterward.

Name your Top 5 favorite horror movies of all time…and tell us why!!

Night Of The Living Dead : Just knowing how it was done, and the campiness, plus it seems like it could really happen.

Carrie : High school is horrible enough without being further tortured. It’s real. The crazy religious mom, the revenge. This shit really happens. Like I said, the real shit is the most frightening.

Frankenstein : I love the old monsters. It’s really a tie between this one and the Bride. Just a childhood favorite.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre : These people are out there. Plus the mask, the butchery, the bone furniture – It’s all awesome.

The Serpent And The Rainbow : I’m into voodoo. If you believe, this stuff does happen. Casting spells brings you into a whole different world. Pretty kool.

What underrated horror movie would you recommend to our readers just in case they have never seen it?

It’s not really a horror film, but I love Angel Heart cause it’s set in the 50’s and there’s blues and voodoo in New Orleans with Mickey Rourke, De Niro and a young hot Lisa Bonet.

What ‘star’ of the music world would you like to see slaughtered in gory horror movie style? How and why?

You know what? The list is too long. Let’s just invite them all to the Grammys and blow the place up.

What are your plans for Halloween this year?

I’m gonna go out into the woods with an axe and see what happens. But I’ll bring candy, of course…….
