What have we got here then? Well, it is the debut album from Malmo garage rockers Villa Nova Junction. Yes, debut album even though they’ve been together for almost a decade.
This four piece peddle a very Scandinavian flavoured garage rock sound. The album kicks off well with ‘Critical’, a tune that definitely sets the tone for the rest of the album, which is certainly not the worst album I’ve heard all year. A dozen tracks of consistent garage rock with its influences all hanging out, from The Stooges and part Stones to ‘Black n Blue’, which has more than a hint of The Hives to it.
‘Villa Nova Junction’ is a record that puts the band in good company but, for the time being, it’ll have to make do with being the best man and not the groom.
