With a brand new line-up, a London club night, and playing with some punk rock legends when they need a killer bass player, Timmy DeRella is a busy boy. Uber Rock got in touch to find out what’s up with The DeRellas, and who the new guy is. So, without further nonsense, it’s over to Timmy DeRella… Pogo Pogo!

After the release of the last album you’ve had a rotating drum stool. What’s the situation as far as the man/woman in the engine room of the DeRellas goes?

That stool has thankfully stopped revolving. Bish DeRella (ex-Flesh for Lulu) is our drummer. We love Bish, he’s very glam, he’s our Billion Dollar Baby.

Also we’ve heard a whisper that a replacement has been found for the sadly vacant lead singer role after Robbie called time on his stint with the band. Are you at liberty to divulge to your favourite website who that person might be?

Yep, its true there’s a new guitar in town. It was a tough decision for Robbie to step down, we understand and respect that and wish him all the best. He’s been a big part of everything the band has achieved so far and he’s a top geezer, a true star.

Steppin’ into those blue suede creepers, we have the blond bombshell, the King Rocker, The 21st Century Boy, the hootin’ and a hollerin’ and guitarin’ Stevie Lynch, aka STEVIE DERELLA.

We’ve known Stevie for a couple of years, he’s a top bloke and has all the attributes we look for in a DeRella. He looks good, he sounds great, and loves a Pot Noodle, what more can I say?

What are your immediate plans for the band?

The DeRellas hit the road on Feb 25th at the Prince Albert, Brighton with the Witchdoktors. Then onto the Islington O2 for the Vibrators 40th anniversary gig — its gonna rock!  We also have a few more gigs in March, a nice little trip to Scotland, and not forgetting playing with The Urban Dogs at Rockaway Beach on March 16th. Then, the plan is to go off to France in May and home for Camden Rocks festival in June. We will start recording the new DeRellas album in the summer for release at the end of the year on legendary French label, Closer Records…  Vive Le DeRellas.

Outside of the DeRellas you like to keep yourself busy. Any plans on that front you can tell us about? You did a sterling job with Honest John Plain – any chance you are involved with future dates or The Crybabys, who we hear are up to no good in 2016?

You never know. I’m very good pals with Honest John, Darrell and Robbie Rushton, and if I get the call and I’m available, it would be a blast.

You’re also doing your bit in England’s capital with your very popular Rockaway Beach nights. Tell us a bit about your plans for that?

Rockaway Beach is great fun. Brian James played last week, it was nuts. I started the club so that me and the missus had somewhere to go where we could hear all the New York CBGBs stuff, lots of Glam and UK 76-77 punk rock. It’s proving to be a big hit and every night has been a sell-out.

You released the last studio album via the PledgeMusic route; with hindsight what would you say were the advantages of using the platform to release a record?

Pledge is a great idea, but bloody hard work. But it worked out great for us in the end.

You did a really good mixtape for us a while ago which had some superb choices. Let us know what you’re currently listening to?  Any bands you have on your want list to play your Rockaway Beach night?

Currently spinning on my deck, The Sonny Vincent ‘Spite’ album (featuring Rat Scabies and Glen Matlock) and ‘Blackout States’ – Michael Monroe (love it love it love it) – also just got hold of a copy of ‘Night of the Living Dead Boys’ on slime green vinyl from a great record shop in Paris called ‘Born Bad’. Wishlist for live at Rockaway Beach? Jayne County, Sonny Vincent, but always on the lookout for a bit of punk rock and trashy rock ‘n’ roll.

So there you have it, folks. Check out The DeRellas and pop along if you can get hold of a ticket for the club night. Keep an eye open for dates from the DeRellas, that is if you love Glunk Rock and a damn good night out…. until then, Pogo Pogo!
