It’s heeeeeere, Uber Rock’s 13 Days Of Halloween returns, a crescendo of bone crushing terror and spine tingling chills. Who better to crack open the casket and resurrect our sickening series than Acey Slade, a man who has been in more cool bands than we have had hot brains.

Dope, Amen, Murderdolls, Trashlight Vision, The Dark Party, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts – how on earth does Acey motivate himself to get out of bed in the morning?! Apart from being involved in a legion of the coolest bands on the planet Acey is a depraved and dedicated horror geek like the best of us. He just had to get involved in the Revenge of Uber Rock’s 13 Days Of Halloween…..

What are your most vivid childhood memories of Halloween?

I remember thinking, “Hey, why is everyone dressed up like ME today?” I think Halloween is one of the only holidays that requires you to actively participate in it for it to exist. I mean, we HAVE to dress up for there to be a Halloween!

Why do you think that the worlds of horror and metal/punk have always been so closely linked?

Horror movies are kinda the outcasts of film. Even as far back as Karloff and Lugosi; nobody takes them seriously, in the mainstream. Metal is the outcast of music. So I think there is that bond. And I think another thing they have in common is that once you are into the genre, you’re kind of a lifer, ya know? It’s not like Dario Argento is trying to do The Color Purple, ya know?!

Last year I asked if remakes and rehashes were killing horror, now it seems to be the in-your-face turkey that is 3D – what are your thoughts on this money-grabbing gimmick that is souring cinemas and the state of current horror in general?

I find it distracting. I also think it’s a way to charge more money at the box office. Not a fan.

Has there been a horror remake yet that has bettered the original movie?

The Thing remake (1982) was so, so good. Better? Definitely. The Hills Have Eyes and The Fly were both good.

What’s the greatest ever horror movie kill?aceyblackheart2

Ya know what? I have to give credit where credit is due – the Final Destination and Saw franchises both have amazing kills….that’s about all though….

Who is the baddest ever horror movie villain…and why?

Oh…it might be Freddy Krueger…..but a very underrated sicko is Pinhead from Hellraiser. What a sick fuck he is!

Who is the greatest ever Scream Queen?

I’m going to go old school on this and say Janet Leigh in Psycho.

Name your Top 5 favourite horror movies of all time…and tell us why!!

A Nightmare On Elm Street – I lost my horror virginity to that one!

The Thing – The special effects to it are just sick. To this day I have a hard time watching the scene where the dog turns into the Thing. And the part where they give the guy CPR? Forget about it..

Hellraiser – Not only did it have some far out effects, but it really had a rich plot.

Ichi the Killer – A lot of squirm in your seat tourture scenes. Also, I needed to have something in here to represent Japanese horror and I’m a big fan. This was my gateway into some very sick Asian horror.

Star Wars : Episode 1 The Phantom Menace – Because this movie completely disgusted me..

What underrated horror movie would you recommend to our readers just in case they letthehaflifeh13have never seen it?

Mmm…not quite ‘horror’ but Let The Right One In, the Swedish version. But for straight up gore, Midnight Meat Train is AWESOME!

What is your guilty pleasure, the trashy horror flick that you hold dear but everyone else runs away from?

Machine Gun Girls.

What is the greatest ever horror movie poster?

I have a real cool vintage original Italian Psycho poster on my wall that was a gift from a friend. For that reason and pretentious points I’ll say that one, ha ha..

What ‘star’ of the music world would you like to see slaughtered in gory horror movie style?

Oh that’s easy..Susan Boyle.

What are your plans for Halloween this year?

The NYC Halloween parade is one of THE best things anyone can go to or do on Halloween. The best! BUT one thing I haven’t done is gone out with some young kids and go trick or treating with them. See it though their eyes might be fun…whether they return or not..that’s another story……
