This particular offering – the debut full length album from North Carolina crüe Pröwess (yes, despite the umlauts, this quintet of rock ‘n’ rollers hail, not from the banks of the Rhine but the deep south of the USofA) – has lain around ÜRHQ for a little more than a month now, before finding it’s way onto the playlist one bright and sunny morning… and you know we just love the small of rock ‘n’ roll in the morning.

Those Damn Crows – ‘Point Of No Return’ (Earache Records)

Those Damn Crows had a phenomenally successful 2019 on the back of their first album, ‘Murder And The Motive’, which highlighted in three sets at Download.  The question everyone was asking was could they follow up that success with a second album.  We’ll leave the answer to that for a while… If the ticket sales for their headline tour are anything to go by, with all but one of the dates sold out well in advance, then its gonna be another fabulous year for the boys from Bridgend.

InMe – ‘Jumpstart Hope’ (Killing Moon Records)

Whereas many of their contemporaries of the noughties’ British alt rock scene have faded into obscurity, Essex boys InMe have steadily pressed on throughout the last decade with consistently solid releases.  Their sixth record ‘Jumpstart Hope’ continues their steady journey, albeit mostly trades the volatility of their earlier output for something a good deal more introspective.

Napalm Death – ‘Logic Ravaged By Brutal Force’ (Century Media)

Rightfully regarded as one of the most legendary bands within the extreme metal spectrum, Napalm Death still continue to astound with the sheer variety and unpredictability of the music they produce. It’s been a long wait for new material since 2015’s furious ‘Apex Predator – Easy Meat’, and though the band are in full swing for a new touring cycle this year they aren’t yet ready to put out a full release, opting instead for the 7” ‘Logic Ravaged By Brutal Force’. Spread across just two tracks, the band take a decided left turn into almost post-punk melody on the title track, sounding decidedly more Killing Joke than their usual snarl would entail.

APF Records Showcase III – Manchester, Bread Shed – 1 February 2020

An early start after a late night of being Hagrid in work sees our travelling gigaholic take in some of the finest doom and stoner bands forging a name for themselves at the moment, under the umbrella of APF Records and curated by Manchester’s Stonebaked Promotions, who ran the Sniff The Riff festival we covered a year and a half ago, again priding themselves on having no band clashes. The short train hop across done, it was time for the big lad to take in some neck breaking musical delights.
